The Centre for Vision in the Developing World
was founded and is dedicated to address the lack of proper eyecare in the developing world. We are based at St Catherine's College, Oxford.
The Centre was founded and is directed by Professor Josh Silver, formerly an atomic physics professor and inventor of the Adspecs, self-adjustable glasses that allow the wearer to set their own prescription, removing the need for trained optometric personnel, which are hugely lacking in developing nations. The work he began is being continued by the Centre, with more scientific studies into the applicability of the process of self-refraction (setting your own prescription) and other related vision issues.
